Passionate Worship, from Day 14

Each day, we will post a different devotional randomly chosen from The Balancing Act, Cultivating Fruitfulness and Forty Days of Fruitfulness. Today’s devotional comes from Cultivating Fruitfulness.

“This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24)

When Meri Whitaker was assigned to Canterbury Chapel in the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference, the congregation had dwindled to a small group of older, highly committed women. They worked and prayed for some way to bring others into the life of the church.

Immersing herself in the community, the pastor came to realize the dramatic need for Twelve-Step support groups based on the Alcoholics Anonymous recovery model. The congregation decided to take a risk and adapted their worship to complement and support the twelve steps. The worship service became a powerful center for testimony, decision, support, and transformation. The congregation now averages over a hundred people each week.

Have you ever experienced an “aha” moment in worship? How did it change your worship life?
